how to measure window glass for replacement.

Edges and fitting

Glass that sits inside a frame is usually supplied with cut edges, because the edges are hidden. Choose polished edges for any edge you can see or touch. We do not install: a local glazier, carpenter or handy home owner can fit the pane with new putty, beading or glazing rubber.

Common questions

How much does it cost to replace a window pane in Melbourne?

The glass for a 900 × 1200mm pane of 4mm clear glass is $157.00 delivered, or $186.16 toughened. Fitting by a glazier is extra and depends on the window.

What thickness is window glass?

Most house windows are 3mm to 6mm. 4mm is the most common replacement for older timber windows, and 5mm or 6mm for larger panes. Doors and low windows need toughened or laminated safety glass.

Do I need safety glass in my window?

You need safety glass in doors, beside doors, in panes within 500mm of the floor and near baths and showers. Toughened and laminated glass are both safety glass.

Can you match old patterned glass?

We stock Cathedral, Spotswood, Satinlite, narrowline reeded and acid etched glass, which covers most patterned windows in Australian homes. Compare the photos above or send us a photo.

Do you install window glass?

No. We cut and deliver the glass to your door; your glazier or carpenter fits it.
