How to measure

  1. Measure the glass width (left to right) and length (top to bottom).
  2. For each cut-out, measure its width and height.
  3. Measure from the left edge of the glass to the left edge of the cut-out, and from the top edge of the glass to the top edge of the cut-out.
  4. For each round hole, measure its diameter, then from the left edge and from the top edge of the glass to the centre of the hole.
  5. Check the drawing matches what you need, then add it to your cart.

Unpolished cut-out and hole edges are ground smooth but not shiny. Choose polished edges where they will be seen. Laminated, double glazed and low-E glass can't have cut-outs online; contact us for those.

Common questions

How much does a cut-out in glass cost?

Each rectangular cut-out is $105 in 4–12mm glass, $210 in 15mm and $420 in 19mm, on top of the glass price. Polishing the cut-out edges adds $175 per cut-out. Delivery is $49 per order.

How much does a round hole in glass cost?

Round holes can now be priced online, from $15 per hole: $15 for 10–29mm, $19 for 30–49mm, $42 for 50–79mm and $105 for 80–150mm diameter. A hole with a polished edge is $150 per hole. Holes are available online in glass up to 12mm thick.

How many cut-outs and holes can I order online?

Up to 4 per piece, in any mix of rectangular cut-outs and round holes. For notches, odd shapes, more than 4 or holes over 150mm, send us a drawing and we will quote.

How do I measure where a hole goes?

Measure from the left edge of the glass to the centre of the hole, and from the top edge of the glass to the centre of the hole. The edge of the hole must be at least 25mm (or twice the glass thickness, if more) from every edge of the glass and from any other hole or cut-out.

How close to the edge can a cut-out be?

At least 100mm from every edge of the glass and from any other cut-out (more for 19mm glass). Closer than that, the glass is likely to crack, especially when it is toughened.

Can toughened glass have cut-outs?

Yes. The cut-outs are made first and the glass is toughened afterwards, which is why the sizes and positions have to be right when you order. Toughened glass can't be cut or drilled later.

Do I need to send a drawing?

No. The drawing on this page is made from the numbers you enter and is saved with your order, so we can make it exactly as shown.
