How to Measure a Corner Radius for Glass
The corner radius, written R, is the size of the curve on a rounded corner. R50 means the curve starts 50mm from where a square corner would be. It takes about two minutes to measure with a ruler.
Method 1: two rulers (most accurate)
- Lay one ruler or straight edge along the front edge of the top, past the corner.
- Lay a second straight edge along the side edge, so the two meet in a square corner just off the furniture.
- From that meeting point, measure along one ruler to where the timber edge starts to curve away. That number is R.
- Check it along the other ruler too. If both numbers are the same, it is a simple round corner.
Method 2: paper template
- Put a sheet of A4 paper square on the corner and trace around the curve with a pencil.
- Rule the two straight edges out until they cross. Measure from the crossing point to where your traced curve starts.
- Or simply send us a photo of the traced paper with a ruler beside it.
Common sizes
| Radius | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| R2–R10 | Just takes the sharp point off |
| R25–R30 | A gentle rounded corner |
| R50 | A soft, clearly rounded corner, common on desks |
| R100+ | A big sweeping curve, like a café table |
Send your radius with your width and length (and which corners are rounded) through our contact form, and we'll price the glass. For the overall size, see how to measure a glass table top.
Common questions
What if my corners are different sizes?
Measure each corner and tell us which is which (for example front left and front right). Old furniture often has slightly different corners.
Should the glass be the same radius as the timber?
For a top that sits flush with the edge, yes. If the glass sits a few millimetres in from the edge, make the radius a little smaller by the same amount so the curve stays parallel.
Can you match a curve that isn't a simple round corner?
Yes. Trace the whole curve onto paper or cardboard and send us a photo of the template with a ruler beside it, and we'll quote it as shaped glass.
